Serving the Community
South Carroll Food Pantry
This ministry provides groceries to Carroll County families in need on a monthly basis. Servants are needed to sort and set-up food on Friday and serve our patrons on the fourth Saturday of every month at Wesley Freedom. Food or financial donations are also welcome.
Feed My Sheep
We offer a hot-meal to guests in the Wesley Freedom Community Life Center every Monday, Thursday, and Friday at noon. Servants from various churches and community organizations prepare and clean up. Volunteer opportunities are available. During this time of the pandemic, we are serving grab-n-go lunches drive-thru style.
Rise Against Hunger
This is a food packing event where we pack dehydrated food packs to send out to the world’s poor.
Rise Against Hunger Meal Packaging event is coming to Wesley Freedom Spring 2021. Stay tuned as to how you may be able to participate.
Cold Weather Shelter
(Human Services Programs of Carroll County)
Since 2013 Wesley Freedom has been one of several churches and community groups in Carroll County that provide an evening meal to homeless adults (18 and older) at Westminster’s Cold Weather Shelter each Winter. WFUMC provides meals on both the first Tuesday and the third Wednesday of each month. Our members serve this ministry by buying food, preparing meals (usually casseroles), and delivering and serving the meals to the guests at the shelter. Most people who participate simply buy food and prepare the meals, then drop them off at the kitchen in the Community Life Center the evening we are scheduled to serve. We have a small group of facilitators, who take the prepared food, reheat it (as needed), and deliver it and serve it at the shelter. If you would be interested in being a part of this ministry, please contact one of our Team Leaders: Kevin Silberzahn, Donald Kropfelder, Roger Bridges, or Sharon Feldman.
Thanksgiving Meal Boxes
This is a family opportunity to package, at Wesley Freedom, ingredients needed for a full Thanksgiving family meal that are distributed to those in need.
Ramp it Up
This is a mission that builds accessible ramps for Veterans. Servants are needed for the initial planning to the actual construction of the ramps.
We show our support to our veterans by donating and packaging items for gift bags, making cards and by visiting the VA Hospitals. Servants are needed throughout the year for projects.
We partner with the American Red Cross on several blood drives every year. Servants are needed to set-up, tear down but mostly to donate blood. To make an appointment use the link below.
Angel Tree Christmas Gifts
We provide gifts to underprivileged children during Christmas. Look for the Christmas tree at the November Annual Bazaar. Servants needed to sort and deliver gifts.
Missions Beyond Our Community
Serving Around the World
Adult Mission Trips
We send a team of adults to spend a week to aid in disaster or poverty relief in the United States. Some of the things we have done are building decks, repairing roofs, building accessible ramps, plumbing, and other home repairs.
Bikes for the World
We collect used bicycles to be donated overseas. One day in June volunteers gather to collect used bicycles and prepare them to be shipped abroad to developing countries. Bikes for the World “enhances their lives and livelihood through better transportation”.
Agape Gospel Mission (Ghana) – Bright Doe
Bright works to provide education and housing for orphans and underprivileged children, teens and young adults.
United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)
General Board of Global Ministries
Kids Creating Kindness
This is a group of our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders who have a passion for missions. They select different groups to outreach to in a variety of ways, such as care packages for first responders and cards and bookmarks for veterans and shut-ins. They have participated in the Junior Market of the Sykesville Farmers Market in downtown Sykesville in the summer. They create and market items, packaging and presentation. If you have any questions you contact Sharon Feldman using the link below.
United Methodist Women Missions
Our UMW supports a variety of Missions throughout the year.
