caring for
our people
“Here’s my concern: that you care for God’s flock with all the diligence of a shepherd. Not because you have to, but because you want to please God. Not calculating what you can get out of it, but acting spontaneously.” – 1 Peter 5:2
Our Caring Ministries are here to support the families in our congregation and community. Our trained care team receives requests and referrals for care through the Connection Cards in worship, emails, and calls to the office and care line. A team member then responds to determine what care is most appropriate and invited. Care may include a phone call or visit from the pastor or member of the care team. A team member may bring communion, anointing, prayer, or friendship in the home, hospital, hospice, or community living community. Meal delivery, a prayer shawl, or pastoral counseling may also be offered.

Stephen Ministry
Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ (Galatians 6:2, NRSV).
Stephen Ministers are members of Wesley Freedom United Methodist Church who have been through extensive training and provide confidential, one-to-one, Christian care to people who are experiencing a difficult time. They listen, care, encourage, pray, and provide weekly support for as long as the need persists. Our Stephen Ministers are ready to bring God’s love and care to those in need. Prayer Chain & Prayer Shawl Ministry
Pray without ceasing. – 1 Thessalonians 5:17
Prayer Chain: Prayer is a very important part of the ministry at Wesley Freedom. We believe that prayer makes a difference in the lives of those who are prayed for as well as in the lives of those who pray for others. Prayer needs are forwarded to the members of the prayer chain by e-mail or phone. To place someone on the prayer chain you may write your request on the Connection Card on the bulletin or contact the church office.
Prayer Shawl Ministry: This group makes prayer shawls, chemo caps and lap blankets to distribute to church members and community organizations who could use the comfort and warmth of one of these hand crafted items. If you know of someone who could use a prayer shawl or lap blanket, contact the church office.
Food Ministries
Caring through nutrition.

Emergency Meals Ministry: This ministry prepares and delivers meals on a temporary basis for individuals and families in our church congregation who are in need during an emergency or crisis. If you have a need for emergency meals, contact Cindy Shruell.

Funeral Luncheon: At a time when our congregation members and family are grieving the loss of a loved one, the funeral meal group steps in to serve a meal for funeral guests in our Community Life Center.

Special Events Ministry: This food and hospitality ministry supports the church’s ministry teams by providing light refreshments for meetings as well as church wide events.
